Hello! I'm Tom, also known by some as UpperCenter. I'm from the UK (sorry) and have a passion for all things tech. I'm currently working in London as a Cyber Security Engineer.
At work, I specialise in building and deploying security automation, hardening security configurations, providing incident response, and developing engineered solutions that are reliable and maintainable. My experience encompasses both defensive security operations and proactive security engineering, and some light offensive security.
I love fantasy settings! Magic, monsters, dungeons, strange landscapes and unique people, everything. My favorites are Baldur's Gate 3 and TLOTR:BFME2. I'm a big fan of fantasy novels, movies, and tv shows. My favorites are the hobbit, the lord of the rings, and the Dune series.
I also build custom mechanical keyboards. I've built several very cool boards so far, including a ZOOM TKL in Wild Green, a Bauer Lite in the Ghost colourway, and a Devastating TKL in black. I'd like to get a Mode at some point too.
I've recently joined a community of NHK World Japanese TV enthusiasts to help with the preservation of their content. The shows and documentaries are great, but it's hard to find good quality recordings, especially for older shows. So far I've built NHK-TS, a tool built with TVHeadend and FFmpeg to archive and preserve satellite recordings, and NHK Search, a tool built with Next.js and Meilisearch to search through our archive. We currently archive over 100TB of content between us! You can learn more on the community subreddit r/NHKWorldFans.
